5/28/10 - Heading into the Last 3 Saturdays of the Spring Season, Awards Ceremony, and Alumni Game...

It has been awhile since I have updated the website - I have a new job that I am very focused on right now and I have not had an abundance of time to devote to this website.  I will do my best to get things updated and active.

We have three weeks remaining in the Spring 2010 season - including playoffs.  School is out for North Valley and now I am going to be challengning all of the players to remain focused and see the season through to the end.  Traditionally, our players have always had a tough time concentrating on the last part of the season and playoffs, because school lets out early for them and they lack a schedule and there are little to no expectations put before them.  We will be working to remedy this over the next two weeks.

Starting Tuesday, June 1st, Carl (former Bulldogs Captain, #19) will be running workout and practice sessions for both the Varsity and JV at the North Valley gymasium - more details to come.

As we finish off our season, we will be looking back and remembering many accomplishments and rewarding the players during our Awards Ceremony (to be scheduled).  In addition, we will be working to host our 3rd annual Alumni Game and potluck - stay tuned for more on that this summer.  See you around the rink.  Thanks, Coach Harter

Jersey Retired, New Leadership Named, Focus for the Season - 11/13/09

The parents, players, and coaching staff all gathered together for a brief team meeting on Friday night.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming season and to recognize several individuals.

Jersey retired - Since the inception of the Bulldog Hockey program, there has been only one Captain - Carl Harter, III.  Carl has led the team through some tough years in the beginning, won several Championships, and is the all-time leading scorer in Goals, Assists, and Penalty Minutes.  Carl's #19 was officially retired on Friday night and he was there to accept that honor and to officially hand over the "torch" to the Bulldog's new Captain.

New Leaders - Kyle Boruff (Junior, #27) was officially announced as the second Captain in the team's history.  Kyle accepted his new jersey with the official "C" on the left chest with great pride and honor.  Kyle is the son of Brad and Julie Boruff and has two brothers - Kevin (#12, Class of '09) and Eric (Freshman, JV Goalie).  We are proud of Kyle and look forward to his style and brand of leadership on the team and with the program.  In addition to a new Captain, three new Alternate Captains were named: Luke Flood (Junior, #21), Josiah Gutierrez (Junior, #7), and Tim Kellogg (Junior, #2).  These three young men have been playing in the Bulldog Hockey program for a number of years and understand what it takes to be a solid player, teammate, and example.  The coaching staff is extremely proud of our new leaders and is excited for each of them and the upcoming season.

New Roster and Jackets - We announced and introduced the 2010 Varsity team and as each team member was introduced they were presented with a coveted Varsity Bulldog Hockey team member jacket.  Each jacket has the Bulldog logo along with their name and number on the left chest.  In addition, the back of the jacket says "BULLDOG HOCKEY" in a particular font that was selected/designed by the first Captain - Carl Harter, III.

Season Focus - As we prepare for a new season, I challenged the team to be Dedicated to each other and the program; exhibit Hard Work in practice, on the rink, and in the class room; and finally to show Respect for other teams, authority, and leadership.  I told them that they are leaders in the school and that younger players (Elementary on up) are looking to them as an example - so be that example.

The new season is due to start in early January and we are certainly looking forward to the new team and challenges ahead.  Thank you to Coach Morris and his ever supportive attitude - he is the best!  See you all at the rink!  Coach Harter

Getting Ready for the New Season! - 10/21/09

We are working hard to get prepared for the upcoming Hockey season - which starts in January.  The Varsity always plays over two seasons (Winter and Spring), while the JV, Jr. High, and Elementary all play in the Spring season only.

There are many things on "our plate" that need to be addressed for the Varsity to be totally prepared for the start of the Winter season (due to start in January).  I am currently working on the new roster - we had six Seniors graduate from the 2009 team and so 2010 will be a rebuilding year.  There are four returning players to the Varsity team, led by our only Senior this year, Zack Langston (Goalie).  The other three returning team members are all Juniors: Kyle Boruff (#27), Luke Flood (#21), and Josiah Gutierrez (#7).  We should have a strong defensive core, but we will certainly have our hands full generating some offense this year, however with a puck control type of game that we play we should be able to get some decent opportunities.

Right now, I am working with the Jacket and Jersey supplier to get the Varsity items completed - these items are expensive - the completed Jackets are $80 each and the completed Jerseys are $80 each (x2, white and black).  The guys will be selling Bulldog Hockey T-shirts to help offset the costs of the Jackets and Jerseys.  We are trying to raise $1500 for these items.  The jerseys will last over the next several seasons, and the jackets will be worn for many years - even after they graduate, so they are a great investment.

If there is anyway that you could help with this project, please donate whatever funds you feel appropriate and we'll be sure to place your name on our new Sponsors page along with a gift "squeezie puck" as a thank you.
