Mr. Azzarello, My name is Mark Shimada. I am the coach of the roller hockey team at Santa Clara
High School. This past Saturday our two teams played a game. The North Valley team was missing several
talented and experience players to a retreat in Costa Rica. Coach Carl Harter and his team could have easily forfeited
and not played this game. However, they fielded a team made up of the remaining players and several junior varsity players.
I was very impressed by the hard work and determination these players displayed under challenging conditions. The players
never gave up and were truly a model of sportsmanship that I wish other teams would exemplify. After the
game I had the opportunity to speak to a couple of the North Valley players. After complimenting them on the game
they just played, your athletes were even more praiseworthy to their opponents. It is indeed a breath of fresh air to
speak with high school athletes that are humble and respectful. (Shockingly, they even addressed me as "sir.") My compliments to you, your staff at North Valley High School, and Coach Carl Harter. All of your efforts
are evident in the students that represent your school and roller hockey team. Sincerely, Mark Shimada
